Study shows baby formula to contain high levels of arsenic and lead

The results sound pretty scary.

A non-profit organisation named The Clean Label Project tested 530 different baby formulas, snacks, cereals and drinks that had been purchased within the last five months according to data by Nielsen.

The organisation who say they use “data and science to reveal the true contents of consumer products” found that 80 percent of infant formula was found to contain arsenic which is associated with serious health issues such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer, according to the World Health Organisation.

Of the 530 products researchers also found that 65 percent of these contained arsenic (some containing 600 parts per billion), 58 percent contained cadmium, 36 percent contained lead while 10 percent contained acrylamide.

Acrylamide is linked to brain damage and reproductive hindrance.

Some products claiming to be BPA free were in fact shown to contain bisphenol A which is used to line the likes of water pipes, the inside of cans and to make water bottles and other plastics.
