Survey Reveals Women Tend To Be Happier Than Men After Divorce

HerFamily

It turns out that men and women have different views when it comes to the decision to divorce.

A recent survey – conducted by AVVO and reported on by website sys.com.com – found that almost three quarters of women (73 per cent) don’t regret getting divorced.

Just 61 per cent of men felt the same, meaning that women in general tend to be happier with the decision than their male counterparts.

The study, which involved 2,000 men and women in the US, also found that nearly two thirds (64 per cent) of women blame their partners. Less than half of men pointed the finger at their ex.

Speaking about the findings, sexologist and sociology professor Pepper Schwartz said that while more men feel that marriage as an outdated institution, they are more likely to want things to remain as they are.

“Men are more fearful of being on their own once they’ve been domesticated by their marriage, and even though men are more likely to think that marriage is an outdated institution on principle—they’re more likely to want to stay put even if things aren’t so great.”

He added: “Women, on the other hand, prize happiness over marriage, and are less fearful of independence generally.”
