It is easy to think that the more often you have sex, the happier your relationship will be, no?
As in; people who are at it like rabbits are by far happier than the rest of us who can't quite summon up the energy to get frisky with our partners every flipping night of the week.
The good news? This new study published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science has revealed the magic number of how many times a week couples should have sex to maintain a happy and healthy relationship.
What do YOU think it is, guys? Twice, maybe three times a week?
Relaaax. It turns out that it is only once.
Yep, that's right. You only have to do the deed once a week to keep romance alive and well, it seems.
The study was conducted over 23 years with 25,000 people and revealed that there is a strong link between sexual satisfaction and high levels of happiness within a relationship but only when the amount is once a week.
Sex and romance researcher at the University of Toronto Mississa and author of the study, Amy Muise, concludes that when couples have sex once a week both personal and relationship satisfaction levels off.
She also explains that couples should not feel pressured to make up the amount just because they feel that they should.
"In general it is important to maintain a sexual connection with a romantic partner, but it is also important to have realistic expectations for one’s sex life, given that many couples are busy with work and responsibilities," she told The Huffington Post.
"Our research suggests that engaging in regular sex is associated with happiness, but it is not necessary, on average, for couples to aim to engage in sex as frequently as possible."
So there you go, parents. No need to feel guilty if you are not swinging out of the chandeliers every night!
