This Is The Diet Celebrities Swear By To Stay Young (And Experts Claim It Really Works)

Trine Jensen-Burke

Want to know how celebrities like Elle Macpherson to Victoria Beckham can be in their 50s and 40s respectively, and still sports skin and bodies that look like that of women half their age?

And how other celebrities, like Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Hudson all look so glowingly gorgeous ALL THE TIME?

Say hello to the alkaline diet.

Known for promoting weight loss and a better overall general health, it seems followers of this regime can also reap some pretty amazing skin- and beauty benefits too.

Eating to keep your body’s pH levels balanced can according to believers not only increase collagen production (hello young and plump skin), but also reduce inflammation, nourish dry skin and strengthen the skin’s barrier function.

Which, you know, sounds all sorts of good to us.

And if a younger face and healthier body sound good to you too, here is a quick how-to guide for eating the alkaline way:

This is how it works

In a nutshell, eating according to the alkaline diet means avoiding – or at least greatly reducing – foods that makes your body’s pH balance more acidic, like alcohol, red meat, coffee and processed foods, and instead eat more of stuff that has an alkalizing effect on your body, like leafy greens, carrots, avocado, beetroot and quinoa.

(Even simpler put, you increase your intake of whole foods that are good for your body, and avoid eating or drinking things known to be unhealthy for you.)

The whole idea of eating alkaline foods hinges on the theory that a more acidic environment in your body can be more prone to disease, mood swings, tiredness, insomnia and skin issues, explains authors and health experts Natasha Corrett and Vicki Edgson in their book Honestly Healthy.

This is what eating the alkaline way can do for your skin (according to Miranda Kerr’s facialist, Ildi Pekar):

“Oily and dry skin have the same problem,” Pekar explains to Byrdie.co.uk. “The pH in the skin is not balanced. By eating an alkaline diet and using the right products, you will be able to deliver the nutrients your skin needs in order to balanced.”
