We are turning up that radio.

It’s October, which means World Mental Health Day is coming up. Next Wednesday the 10th, organisations the world over will be helping to raise awareness about mental health issues and how to look after and improve your mental health.

Particularly as we get further towards the end of the year and the days get shorter and darker, those winter blues are going to start making the rounds. Which means that we have to take extra special care of our mental health during these months and our kids’ mental health too.

To help us along the way, St. Patrick’s Mental Health Services are running their annual Walk in My Shoes Radio campaign. The campaign will include a pop-up radio station dedicated to raising mental health awareness for schools and communities.

The radio station will air from Monday 8 to Friday 12 October, between 7am and 9pm each day.

PLUS this year, to fit in with the World Federation for Mental Health’s 2018 theme of young people and mental health in a changing world, Walk in My Shoes will be holding a very special programme on World Mental Health Day dedicated specifically to Primary schools.

Students and teachers are encouraged to tune in between 11:15am and 12:15pm that Wednesday for some positive and informative insights into mental health.

The programme will include a special interview with Bressie and will be part-hosted by some budding broadcasters who are still in Primary School themselves. This is sure to be barrels of fun as well as educational.

There will also be interactive mindfulness exercises that will be perfect for students and teachers to take part in during class.

For the parents, there is also a live panel every evening from 7-8pm that has engaging and important themes including Supporting Youth Mental Health in an Ever-Changing World, Life Online – Implications for our Mental Health, and The Power of Creativity in Supporting Mental Health. You can either tune in to these shows or, if you have a little time on your hands, you can register to attending for free.

You can register for these or other shows here, where you can also check out the station’s timetable for the week.
