This (scary-looking) doll has sunburn to help teach kids an important lesson

Trying to apply sunscreen to young children is probably as difficult as teaching them about the importance of wearing it in the first place.

Nivea has teamed up with ad agency FCB Brasil to create a toy that could be one solution when it comes to teaching kids about the dangers of the sun.

Made with UV-sensitive material, the doll quickly turns bright red when exposed to the sun without any lotion. It instantly returns to its normal shade when sunscreen is applied (not exactly realistic but definitely an effective illustration), and doesn’t turn red at all if lotion is used before the doll is exposed to the sun.

“Protecting and caring is something we learn from an early age. This emotional bond is what this Nivea action offers,” Joanna Monteiro, creative vp at FCB Brazil, said in a statement. “Through the magic of technology, children can see the sun’s effect on the skin of the doll.”

The doll isn’t available to purchase yet, but we reckon this is a fun and clever way to explain to children (and possibly some adults) why we need to wear sunscreen.
