5 of the best tried & tested budget face moisturisers

HerFamily

The reason we love these budget buys is that they are all based on simple ingredients, but that’s the magic. They work. There are no bells and whistles here, just pared-back ingredients and no amplified prices.

I should mention that I have all five of these beautifying budget buys for different times of the year when my skin becomes imbalanced. For me, the Korres brand triumphs when the cold evenings creep in. The effect of wild rose extract calms my broken capillaries and eases any rough skin around my chin or cheeks. I’m exceptionally oily skinned, but with that I suffer dehydration on some areas too. This moisturiser, coupled with a regular plant-based exfoliator, like A’Kin JoJo and Corn, which has a very fine grain (used once a week) stops my skin from becoming congested. My routine keeps my partial dryness at bay and infuses my skin with much-needed moisture from the minute I wake up. High five for Korres 24hr cream – perf for busy Mums too.

Whatever your skin type there is a solution here for you. Sort your face out with these beauts – you won’t be disappointed:

1. Trilogy certified organic Rosehip oil for normal skin

The buzz: You only need the tiniest drop or two of this organic product, and your dry Autumn skin will be on a speedy road to recovery. I suggest two drops mixed into a pea-sized amount of your day or night cream.

What’s cool: It’s certified organic, non-GMO, and a pure form of Rosehip oil, not a derivative – great news for the holistic among us.

How much? €16 for the 15ml bottle available from health food stores nationwide.

Great for normal skin. If you’re prone to breakouts or have excessively oily skin try Clarins ‘Lotus Oil’ at night.

2. Korres Wild Rose 24hr moisturising and brightening cream (SPF6) for dry skiin

budg1

The buzz: For normal to a more dry skin type. The Greek brand Korres originated as an herbal pharmacy and use all natural ingredients.

What’s cool: Wild Rose in this moisturiser repairs fine lines and skin discoloration and evens out skin tone.

How much: €28 from Korres.com.

This is the most expensive choice from the selection, but it has entirely natural ingredients so you use less as it’s more potent.

3. Boots Essentials moisturising cream for all skin types

budg2

The buzz: It’s as refreshing as a high-end product, but costs the same as of a packet of cotton buds. It’s lightweight and easily absorbed, too. We love this super-thrifty find.

What’s cool: Suitable for day and night due it’s consistency and the soothing extract of cucumber. It’s a light but full to the brim with antioxidants.

How much: €3 from Boots.ie

This really is a steal and perfect for under make-up for a night out as it’s oil-free.

4. Eucerin replenishing face cream for all skin types

cream

The buzz: Harsh weather creeps up, central-heating plays havoc, and our skin becomes stripped of moisture in Autumn and Winter. This moisturiser is perfect for people who are in and out of the cold and heat during the day.

What’s cool: This little lifesaver is absorbed in a flash and contains the natural moisturising factor Urea to support the regulation of the skin’s moisture content. It minimises the risks of flaky, dry skin or skin susceptible to allergies. It’s colourant free too. Yey.

How much? €10 from Pharmacies nationwide and it will last for ages.

Thanks to our reader Elaine Caverly for reminding us. Eucerin is one of our budget faves for sensitive-skinned gals.

5. Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration range for dull skin, tired skin that needs a boost

range

The buzz: This is a cocktail for parched skin because of the ingredient Clary Sage. It’s a mild, everyday lotion that’s one of those under-the-radar cult buys that girls in-the-know are privy to.

What’s cool: The Mafura Butter Extract softens skin while Clary Sage keeps the moisture locked inside the top skin layer. Magic if you are out and about during the day.

How much: €23 from Debenhams nationwide.

Note*: Always, and I mean always wear a high SPF after an exfoliation. As with all of our recommended moisturisers, a lotion with high SPF should be applied on top of your day cream. Press a light layer over the entire face.
