What Is A Vagina Massage and Why Are People Getting Them?

HerFamily

Nothing beats a good massage but have you heard about the latest trend, vagina massages?

That’s right, according to Women’s Health, an increasing number of women are getting professional vagina massages – also known as yoni massages.

Here is what we’ve found out about them so far…

What is it?

Somatic sexologist Isis Phoenix told Women’s Health that a yoni massage is “a ceremony where a woman is invited to seize touch on her vulva.” The session itself can involve deep-breathing exercises, herbal treatments and even finger penetration. (Beforehand, there is a consultation regarding boundaries and consent.)

What are the benefits?

It is claimed (not proven) that this type of massage can help to ease tension and lead to a release of emotion however the main benefit appears to be sexual. It apparently helps to make women more aware of their sexuality and enables them to discover new areas of pleasure. While orgasm is possible during the treatment, it is not the objective.

Is it safe?

Gynaecologists have reportedly said that it is safe and it would help sexually however there is doubt concerning the other health benefits. It is also noted that the vaginal area is very sensitive therefore steam, herbs and oils should not be applied. Of utmost importance, you would need to make sure that you have booked an appointment with a certified professional.

Can you get it done?

Whilst the practice does seem to be growing in popularity in the UK, there doesn’t appear to be any official establishments offering yoni massage in Ireland. Again, we would say that, due to the nature of it, you would need to make sure that you have booked an appointment with a certified professional. It will also apparently cost you over £200 (€260).
