IKEA-inspired baby names are the newest trend…and they’re definitely unique

Keeley Ryan

Intriguing.

We’re only a few months into 2018, and there’s already been dozens of baby name trends that have come and gone.

From the 90s-inspired names people reckon will swing into fashion to the most sought after monikers from 100 years ago, parents have – for the most part – have been looking toward the past for inspiration.

The reigning trend overall, though, has been gender-neutral names.

Inspired by the movement, Baby Centre have put together a list of names they reckon could become the next naming phenomenon.

Each of the monikers is inspired by items from IKEA, from the Billy bookcase to the Ingo table.

One mum posted on the site:

“Naming your baby after Ikea furniture might seem ridiculous at first glance, but don’t dismiss the idea.

“IKEA is known for the charming Scandinavian names it gives its products and many work surprisingly well as baby names.”

Her suggestions include Malm, which has been used by the furniture chain for the “simple, streamlined” bedroom range; or Stig, which has been used for IKEA’s bar stools.

Meanwhile, Elly, the name given to IKEA’s dish towels, and Malinda, used for the company’s chair cushions, also make the cut.
