Dublin supermarket is helping to keep school children safe as they walk home

Melissa Carton

This is a fantastic idea!

This Dublin supermarket is trying to make sure that school children are able to get home safely during the darker winter evenings.

SuperValu in Walkistown has set up a system to allow children the use of their phone in case they need to reach an adult.

The supermarket announced their new safety initiative this week by posting to social media;

“With all of the schools back in the area and the dark nights coming in fast we want to let parents know that if your child misses a bus or needs to make a phone call they are more than welcome to use our landline in the store and wait here where they can be safe and warm. We ask that this post is shared to let people know that we are here. ”

Parents who spotted the post were extremely appreciative;

“Wow Supervalu, just wow. What a great thing to do for children parents and the community in general. Thank you.”

“Fair play that’s a superb gesture.”

The evenings are only due to get darker and for older children heading home from school on their own, it’s important that they have a means of contacting a parent or guardian if any issue should occur.

This new initiative of SuperValu Walkinstown is a brilliant way of looking after the local community and something I think more businesses should consider taking part in.
