Irish parent sends JanSport bag back on warranty 17 years after buying it

Melissa Carton

An Irish parent decided to put their bag’s lifetime warranty to the test.

Popular backpack brand JanSport gives a lifelong warranty on all of their bags, so mum Annie Byrnes decided to send her 17-year-old bag back to the company when the zip no longer worked.

She posted what happened next to social media and since then I have seen several other Irish parents write similar posts including one only earlier this week!

Annie posted a photo of her old beloved bag that she posted back to the company some weeks ago alongside a photo of the brand new bag the company sent her back, completely free!

The mum posted to Zero Waste Maynooth saying;

“JanSport certainly live up to their lifetime warranty. Had this pink bag for over 17 years. Travelled the world with it, used it as a gym bag, held babies nappies – it was well used but the zip was catching. So I posted it to the states (€13), they confirmed when they got it and just over a month later I got this beauty back!! When they can’t repair the original bag, they send you a new one back. Delighted. Will absolutely pick this brand again for the kids bags with such a great warranty.”

There is an old JanSport bag that has been doing the rounds between all of my friends for years. I think every single one of my college friends used it at one point to cart around their books and laptops and I’m not actually sure who the original owner of it is. It eventually landed with me and now ten years after first becoming acquainted with it my son now uses it when he’s going for sleepovers or weekend trips.

Annie is not the only Irish parent that has taken advantage of this lifetime warranty as only this week I saw another parent in my home feed say that they did the same.

Many in the environmental group were extremely impressed at how loyal the brand is to their customers and most were completely unaware that such a warranty even existed.

Even Ms Byrnes herself confessed that she had only just found out about it recently;

“I didn’t know when I first got the bag but discovered it over the last year. Which was good timing as the bag was fading!”

With most school children wearing through schoolbags quicker than parents can buy them it’s great to know such a service is available.

All the details of JanSport’s lifetime warranty are available on their website.
