Kirsten Bell has been criticised online for saying she smokes weed at home.

The The Good Place actor said that she smokes marijuana on occasion around her husband in their home and that it doesn’t seem to bother him.

Bell’s husband, Dax Shepherd, has been sober for 14 years, recently having celebrated the milestone with his wife.

Bell told Marc Maron on his podcast that she usually smokes when she’s “exhausted.”

She said:

“I smoke around my husband and it doesn’t seem to bother him. Weed rules.

“Once a week, if I am exhausted and we are about to sit down and watch 60 Minutes, why not?”

Bell then added why her husband had to stop smoking, saying: “He lost his privilege with them because he can’t handle it; his brain doesn’t have the chemistry to handle it.”

Following her admission, Bell was criticised online by those who believe it to be “selfish” of her to smoke around her sober husband.

Many of the comments left beneath the E! News article reporting this story stated that Bell should stop smoking weed for the sake of her husband.

Others also suggested that smoking around young children was “irresponsible.”

There is lacking evidence to suggest that marijuana smoke is actively dangerous when exposed to children, however it is believed that it is just as harmful as regular cigarette smoke.

Bell and Shepherd have two children together – Delta and Lincoln.

They married in 2013.
