Now they want the potato toys to offer more diversity so "the iconic brand will be reimagined for the modern consumer." Kids will now be able "to imagine and create their own Potato Head family," said Hasbro. Mr and Mrs Potato Head will still be around even with the rebrand, the company tweeted: "Hold that Tot – your main spud, MR. POTATO HEAD isn’t going anywhere! While it was announced today that the POTATO HEAD brand name & logo are dropping the ‘MR.’ I am proud to confirm that MR. & MRS. POTATO HEAD aren’t going anywhere and will remain MR. & MRS. Hasbro general manager Kimberly Boyd told business magazine Fast Company "The way the brand currently exists - with the "Mr" and "Mrs" - is limiting when it comes to both gender identity and family structure. Culture has evolved."
Mr Potato Head first went on sale in 1952 and Mrs Potato Head was launched not too long after the following year.
This is just the latest move in a list of improvements Hasbro has been making to its much loved Potato Head. Last year, the company announced that would start making the toys from “plant-based plastic” and have less plastic packaging.
