New app allows Irish college students to room swap and it will save you a fortune
This is a brilliant idea!
A new Irish app helps to bring together college students from across the country so that they can room swap.
My Roomswap swaps bedrooms with students who move city for college with another student travelling in the opposite direction.
The idea behind the app is that the parents of a child moving county for college, like Limerick to Cork, can link up with parents of a kid moving in the opposite direction.
The basic idea is that, rather than both families paying approximately €6000 in rent every year, they could host each other's children in the empty room that their child leaves behind.
I know a mother whose child moved to Galway for college and she said that the rent for her daughter's accommodation costs twice as much as her college fees.
The app has just launched and while they do have some families already signed up they are hoping to have at least 150 families on board by August.
In cities such as Dublin, this could be an incredible help as many young people struggle to afford the high Dublin rents.
