Is your child heading into their first year of college?

If you and your child are Roscommon residents you could be eligible for the Dermot Earley Bursary.

The bursary in memory of the late Dermot Earley is now open for 2018/2019 applications.

The bursary is open to students who are heading into their first year of third level education this autumn.

Established by Roscommon County Council, the bursary will give financial assistance to two successful candidates to help them attend college or university.

It will be given to one female applicant and one male applicant who have an accomplished background in sports.

If you have a child who is interested in applying you can get an application via the Roscommon County Council website or by writing to them at :

Customer Services,

Aras an Chontae,

Roscommon.

The closing date for applications is next month, August 31 at 5 pm and the successful applicants will be contacted before the start of their first term.

With the average cost for college students coming in at roughly €5,000 per year for students living at home and €8,000 for those living away from home, bursaries and grants are a great way of making sure more of the population can access further education.
