Stage school defends decision to host Love Island themed kids party

A stage school has defended their decision to host a Love Island themed kids party.

Lisa McKechnie, who formed the Fever Pitch School of Performing Arts group for children in Bellshill, Scotland, has faced criticism from some parents who believed hosting a Love Island party for minors was “sexualising” children.

The Daily Standard reported that the party was offering:

“Mocktails on arrival. Then it’s PAMPER TIME!

“Summer nails and glitter lips. We will be testing your knowledge of the islanders and a few of you might even receive a TEXT! Be prepared for some challenges.”

Fever Pitch has since responded to the criticism, saying that the event was simply a summer party with a popular theme due to the nation’s obsession with the ITV2 reality show.

Writing on the group’s Facebook page, they said:

“The ‘filthy’ love island beach party – as you claim – was a harmless theme for a kids summer party.

“Lisa has went above and beyond for the children she teaches putting all her time and effort into all of us, giving us amazing opportunities.”

The post goes on to say that Fever Pitch has taken their students to perform in Paris and London with plans to perform in New York in the future.

“Sometimes stories can be told that are simply took out of context or blown out of proportion,” they said, “… and stories can be told by by people who don’t like others succeeding in life.”
