Gigi Hadid reportedly says daughter Khai needs dad Zayn Malik despite harassment charges

The former couple split last month after an explosive argument between Gigi’s mother and the singer.

Gigi Hadid has reportedly made it clear she’s not planning to cut off her ex Zayn Malik after an alleged altercation between him and her mother, Yolanda Hadid.

The model, 26, and the singer, 28, split last month following an argument between Zayn and Yolanda, 57, that led to him being charged with four counts of harassment.

During the argument, which took place in the Pennsylvania home he and Gigi shared at the time, Zayn allegedly “grabbed [Yolanda] and shoved her into a dresser,” according to court documents.

The documents also claim he hurled a number of insults at Yolanda and told her to stay away from his 13-month-old daughter Khai, who he shares with Gigi.

On top of the two harassment charges involving Yolanda, he was charged with harassing Gigi over the phone as she was away from home for work. The documents claim he also attempted to “physically engage” a security guard “in a fight.”

Zayn pleaded no contest to the charges, which he claims was to protect Khai’s privacy, and is now required to serve 90 days of probation for each of the four counts. He must also complete an anger management class as well as a domestic violence program, and is barred from having contact with Yolanda or the security guard.

Since then, the couple have reportedly been focused on co-parenting their daughter, something Gigi hopes to do as civilly as possible.

“Yolanda is very upset with Zayn, but Gigi has made it clear that her daughter needs her dad,” a source close to the model told People. “Gigi will do everything she can to make sure they co-parent in a civil way.”

Zayn also released a statement prior to the argument becoming public knowledge, in which he said he was trying to “restore us to a peaceful family environment that will allow for me to co-parent my daughter in a manner in which she deserves”.

A TMZ article came out not long after his statement on October 28, stating Zayn had “struck” Yolanda – a claim which he “adamantly” denied.

“I hope that Yolanda will reconsider her false allegations and move towards healing these family issues in private,” he stated in an updated version of the article.

A source close to Zayn said that “Yolanda came over uninvited while Gigi was away for work and Zayn was taking care of Khai. That led to an argument.”

Yet a source close to Gigi claims a blow-up between the two had been brewing for a while.

“Yolanda is, of course, very protective of Gigi,” the source told People. “She wants the best for her daughter and grandchild. She has had some issues with Zayn.

“He has a complicated personality, and she thinks he could treat Gigi better. It’s been hard at times for Gigi to live with him.”

Another source close to Zayn told the publication the former couple “are not fighting” but “are actively and amicably working to find the best way to co-parent now.”
