Time-saving tips for the school run

Preparation is key

Take some time in the evening before the school run to prepare as much as you can. Make a list of everything you need – uniforms, schoolbags, lunches, car keys, shoes etc. – and lay them out so that you won't lose time in the morning.

It's not always easy to get everyone up and out the door in the morning, so why not make it fun for your little ones? Challenge them to see who can be ready first (feel free to make adjustments based on your children's ages) and let the winner pick the music you listen to en route.

Look for traffic-beating alternatives

See if there are car-free alternatives for getting to school, such as walking or cycling. Some schools even run a parent-led cycle bus, so check to see if there is one running in your child's school. If not, consider starting one! Car-free travel is not only kinder to the planet, but it also allows your little ones to start the day with fresh air and exercise.

Make a pit-stop on the way home

If the post-school traffic is heavy in your area, consider hitting up a nearby park first if you can. Your children will be glad to run around and play and the traffic may have improved while you've been playing.
