Autumn is a time for change.

Like fashion, hairstyles are seasonal, and what may work in summer doesn’t look right in colder weather.

So what’s hot for the coming season in terms of hair dos?

Alan Keville for Hair, with salons located in Dublin, Wexford and Naas, has given us the most important trends for Autumn 2018.

Big Hair

When Kaia Gerber rocked a seriously backcombed barnet on the catwalk for Valentino, it was only a matter of time before everyone would want a big bouffant blow dry.

The secret to achieving an everyday version of this, is lots of backcombing and a strong hairspray. “Kaia’s hair has been pouffed up with lots of extensions for the length. Then it was seriously brushed, blow-dried and backcombed to get this look.

The Slicked Back high pony

The ponytail is making a comeback and loads of celebs are turning to this cool look. It’s handy for autumn as it can be achieved quickly.

“We have noticed that lots of clients are asking for this look. Some even bring their own hairpiece in with them and we style it for them.”

“The best way to get this look at home, is with lots of gel to hold the hair in place at the front and tie an elastic tightly around the base. If you backcomb the part near the root, you can a higher pony.”

The Short Bob

This look was recently rocked by Kim Kardashian and we all know she sets trends.

“It’s a really cool haircut, it’s slightly longer at the front than at the back and the finish is super shiny.

“It works well on naturally straight hair. It’s also easy to do at home because shorter hair takes less time to dry, and when the weather gets cooler it will look really funky under a wooly hat.”

The Colour Transformation

Autumn is a time of new beginnings and transformation for many, some cut their hair, and some change their colour.

“We often see moody reds and auburns and chocolatey browns coming back in autumn. Some of our regular clients like to tone down their highlights come September, and they opt for darker hues”.

On catwalks this year, there was a lot of bold bright reds seen on models in the Autumn/Winter collections. Marc Jacobs and Miu Miu contrasted their winter clothes with cherry hair.

“If you have the guts to go bold for winter, vibrant reds look great on paler skin tones.”
