A 90s reboot we can get behind: The Body Shop Body Butters are back

You can keep your low-rise jeans, but we're so here for this!

Almost 30 years ago, the Body Shop launched its first Body Butter. A simple mango cream, the formula was created in the kitchen of the brand's founder, Anita Roddick, and was naturally dubbed a "butter" due to its smooth, velvet-y, food-like texture. It wasn't long before the Body Shop Body Butters became a cult product, a staple of any indulgent skincare routine with an array of textures and smells to suit any mood. Most fans of the product will associate it with the 90s and early 2000s, but listen up lads, because Body Butters are back and they're got a serious sustainable upgrade. And some stunning new scents too. The Body Shop recently announced their 13 new and improved Body Butters, including an avocado one, a hemp one, and even an almond milk one. So rich, so glam, so ideal for your dry, lockdown skin. The new products, available to buy now, are all registered by The Vegan Society and made with at least 95% natural origin ingredients, including Community Fair Trade shea butter from Ghana. The butter itself is handmade by 600 women from 11 Ghanian villages using an 18-stage process of traditional techniques which has been passed on for generations. These butters claim to leave users with up to 96 hours of moisture, and I don't know about you, but that's the kind of richness my skin desperately needs. And while this author has yet to try the store's new butters first hand, based on previous experience of Body Shop products, I have no doubt that they will leave me feeling just as moisturised, hydrated, and generally stunning. What's more is that the products' packaging is now fully recyclable. Made from aluminium lids and 100% recycled plastic, including Community Fair Trade recycled plastic from the streets of Bengaluru, India, the new products aren't just good for your skin, but are a little bit better for the community too. The Body Shop's new full range of Body Butters includes Strawberry, British Rose, Pink Grapefruit, Satsuma, Almond Milk, Mango, Moringa, Avocado, Shea, Coconut, Argan, Olive, and Hemp. Each tub costs £18 (around €20), and are available to buy in select pharmacies or the Body Shop (when it reopens).
