These babies know how to handle a little neglect
I am a serial plant killer. I've killed plants by under-watering. I've killed plants by over-watering. I've killed plants by seemingly just
looking at them. And so I've spent some time asking myself if I should bother with them at all.
But it turns out there are indoor plants to suit virtually every type of bad plant parent. It's all about finding the ones best equipped to survive your habits. Whether you're neglectful, a drowner or so on, you don't have to make the switch to plastic plants just yet.
Here are five houseplants you can't kill, from one well-meaning plant killer to another.
Philodendron
Recognisable by their cut-out leafs, these are a good choice for those who don't have the brightest of spaces to work with. Philodendrons can generally handle dark corners and won't immediately kick the bucket if you forget to water them.
Sansevieria Trifasciata
More commonly known as the snake plant or mother-in-law's tongue, these plants have earned their nicknames through both their difficulty to kill and their leaves. They have no stems, just long, stiff, spiky blades and can go a month without water.
Cactus
The most obvious on this list, pretty much any cactus type is a great addition to the home of a forgetful plant owner. Given their native habitat of dry, hot conditions, cacti are well-adapted to dealing with sparse water and the warmth of central heating.
Aloe
The aloe plant prefers indirect light and is therefore a great desk or shelf plant. It also requires watering only every 2-3 weeks during the summer and even less during the winter.
ZZ Plant
Possibly the most hard to kill on this list, the ZZ plant (or
Zamioculcas zamiifolia) can easily survive poor conditions. Native to East Africa, it can live up to a whopping four months without water and does well in low light.
