Even if you are not a full-on earth mama (so few of us are, dear), we all want to make sure that we are staying healthy when we are pregnant to give our little ones to very best start in life possible.
The thing is, though, that when it comes to do's and dont's in pregnancy, there is
a lot – to say the least – of conflicting advice out there.
One warning many expectant mums have come across is the advice that you should avoid colouring your hair when you are pregnant. But is there any real truth to this? Will dying your hair when pregnant pump your body full of harmful chemicals as the scaremongerers will have us believe? Or is, in fact, a few high lights and a colour refresh pretty darn safe when you are rocking a bump?
Here is what Melanie Smith, creative master colourist at Josh Wood Atelier had to say to
Byrdie about the matter:
“No. This is really such an old wives tale, but there’s no basis to it. It is completely safe to dye your hair when pregnant.”
Now isn't that good news, mamas? You might have to lay off your favourite sushi for the next few months, but at least you can do so with your hair colour on point.
Because while hair dyes are chemicals, Smith explains that very little of it, if any, gets into our system during the process. And apparently, it doesn’t matter whether you’re using permanent, semi-permanent or wash out options.
“There is no difference to the safety of the dyes, it’s about the result you’re looking for,” confirms Smith.
