Two crafty families create a ‘social distance’ bar between their two gardens – and it is the best

Literally genius.

I think at this stage, we are all really missing our friends – and being able to meet our pals over a glass of wine – or, for the menfolk, a pint, maybe. And sure look, we know we have Zoom (and FaceTime and WhatsApp) and whatever not, but it's just not the same as chatting to people IRL. Which is why we are loving this idea that two Australian families came up with – setting up a joint bar with their neighbours – accessible from either side of their garden fences. Say hello to the ‘Neighbar’ – where these neighbours can enjoy a drink or two with each other, all without breaching social distancing rules. Sharing their handiwork to Facebook, Sonia Hanford explained that their husbands built the bar in just one day.   “The 'Neighbar' took our hubbies a day to build and yes, we supply our own food and nibbles,” she wrote. "The idea came from my mum who sent us both a video of some people that had done something similar," Sonia told Kidspot. "It was so cheap as it was all made from stuff we already had, I think we spent less than $20 on the candles, lanterns and bunting," she added. It didn't take long after she posted the images to Facebook for the idea to gather momentum, with many saying they wished they could do it themselves if they had such close friendships with their neighbours. “Wow! Love this, such a great idea but only if you get on with your neighbours,” said one. “Love it I wish I had cool enough neighbours to do this with,” another one admitted. One reader said that they had already done something along the same lines – and how she was delighted to be able to socialise with her neighbours – even in this social distance kind of way. “We took our fence panel out before lockdown best thing we have done I would be going crazy without my neighbour to chat to,” they admitted.
