Teachers reveal they don’t want flowers or chocolates as gifts this school year

Ellen Fitzpatrick

As we’ve done for years, we give teachers a small gift at the end of the school year as a thank you for everything they’ve done for our children.

And as we think of what to buy for them, teachers themselves have revealed that they don’t want the typical chocolates or flowers.

A new survey from One4all Gift Cards has revealed that one in four teachers don’t want to get any chocolates, with this answer coming out on top for the gifts that are a no-go.

Over half the respondents, at 54%, admitted they have re-gifted a present they received from a student, while 46% said they’d prefer a collective gift from the class rather than various individual gifts.

Most teachers, at 59%, agreed that gift cards are their favourite gift to receive, and 41% said the enjoy something that is made by the student.

58% of teachers said thoughtful gifts were the most important to them.

When it comes to the strangest gifts they’ve ever gotten, the responses included a baby tooth from a student’s mouth in a pouch, a dead plant and even a goat.

Lou Hickey, Marketing Director at One4all Gift Cards, commented: “Teachers no doubt receive many weird and wonderful gifts across their career, and there will be some standout gifts and moments which will stay with them forever.

“And whilst every teacher is unique in their own way, it’s clear that teachers can all agree that it’s the thought that counts when choosing them a thank you present.

“If you’re a student looking for some inspiration on what to gift your favourite teachers, our research reveals some thought-provoking insights around what you should – and shouldn’t – be picking for them.”

One4All Gift Cards are a great often as they can be loaded from €15 to €150 and allow the teacher to choose a gift they really want, and makes the decision a lot easier for parents.

With over 13,000 stores participating online and in person, there’s a whole lot to choose from, and there’s even a new Thank You Teacher card design to opt for.

One4All Gift Cards are available on www.one4all.ie as well at your local Post Office, Tesco, Circle K, selected PostPoint outlets and Dealz nationwide.
