12-year-old driver dies after collision in Limerick

Tragic.

A child has sadly passed away this morning after a collision involving a car he was driving occurred in Co Limerick.

The car that was involved in the accident was being driven by a child who is believed to be 12 years old and was fatally injured.

He is said to be the sole occupant of the car and his body has since been removed to the morgue at University Hospital Limerick, with the coroner being notified.

The incident occurred shortly before 2am when Gardaí and emergency services were called following a collision between a car and a lorry on the N21 at Rineroe near Adare.

The driver of the lorry did not require treatment in hospital and is believed to be a man in his 40s.

The scene is currently being preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and diversions are currently in place on the N21.

City bound traffic is also being diverted from Adare via Croom.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward and are urging that anyone with a dash cam and was travelling on the N21 near Adare area at the time of the collision are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.
