A 10-year-old rape victim has given birth a baby girl after being denied an abortion.

The girl alleged that she had been raped multiple times by her uncle over the past few months.

She gave birth to a premature baby girl this morning via Caesarean section.

The Indian Supreme Court denied the girl the opportunity to terminate her pregnancy, stating that it was “too risky” to carry out the procedure so late into the pregnancy.

The BBC has reported that the girl was not made aware of her pregnancy. Instead, she was told that her expanding stomach was due to “a big stone” inside of her.

The baby has been placed in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit.

Indian officials have said that both mother and baby are doing “fine.”

A study conducted by the Indian government showed that over half of children have experienced some kind of sexual abuse.

Over 10,000 children were raped in India in 2015 alone.

The 10-year-old’s pregnancy first became apparent when she complained of stomach pains to her parents.

Since the birth of their granddaughter, they have stated that they do not want anything to do with the baby.

The infant will be put up for adoption once she is healthy enough.
