18-month-old toddler dies in Cork

A tragic accident.

A toddler was killed in West Cork yesterday afternoon after being struck by a car in the driveway of his home in Skibbereen.

According to the Independent, the incident happened shortly after 5pm yesterday, in Tralispean in Skibbereen, West Cork.

Within minutes of the accident, local Gardaí and the fire brigade attended at the scene, and the 18-month-old boy was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital.

However, the toddler tragically passed away shortly after.

“Shortly after 5pm on Tuesday 25th January 2022, Gardaí from Skibbereen and Emergency Services attended at the scene of an incident near Skibbereen, Co Cork,” a garda statement read.

“A toddler sustained serious injuries after being struck by a car on the driveway of a house. He was taken from the scene by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where he has since been pronounced dead.”

A post mortem will take place later on today, Wednesday, and an investigation into the incident has been launched by gardaí.

However, according to the Independent, the gardaí are keen to point out that this is for the time being treated as a tragic accident.
