25 years of helping create families as Sims IVF celebrates significant milestone

Melissa Carton

“The landscape in Ireland for fertility treatment has been transformed.”

Sims IVF, a Medical Consultant led group of fertility clinics in Ireland, is celebrating twenty-five years in business this month, having helped thousands of families and individuals in conception and on their journey to parenthood.

Founded in July 1997 with one small clinic in South Dublin, the fertility provider has expanded to three full-service clinics facilitating treatment cycles: along with three satellite services providing localised care to patients.

Having commenced operations with a small team of under ten with a couple of hundred patients in 1997, the group now consists of 150 staff members across the six locations in Ireland and have assisted thousands of patients on their fertility journey over the past 25 years.

In celebration of its 25th Anniversary, Sims IVF has taken the unique step of providing a special introductory offer for a limited period for €25 euro consultations for individuals for fertility investigations.

Sims IVF has always been an innovator in scientific advances and has helped shape the future of fertility in Ireland, celebrating a number of significant ‘firsts’ over the past twenty-five years. These include:

In 2000, Sims IVF was the first clinic in Ireland to introduce a sperm donor gametes service, opening treatment options to single women and female same sex couples.

In 2003, the clinic introduced the first egg donor programme in the country to increase the success rate for women who may have experienced recurrent miscarriage, failed IVF cycles or have a history of genetic disease.

In 2014, Sims IVF introduced a Fertility Awareness Week, which is now celebrated on a national scale.

Speaking with us today, Damien O’Dowd, Group Clinic Director of Sims IVF said:

“The landscape in Ireland for fertility treatment has been transformed over the past number of years, and as we celebrate twenty-five years in business this month, this is reflected in a number of key growth areas, including our locations, staff numbers and the services we offer to patients.

Fertility treatment has come a long way during this time and as we look towards to future, we hope to see our services continue to develop and progress and with the necessary legislation introduced to recognize all family types and to be able to assist them to access treatment in Ireland.”
