4-Year-Old Trashes £10,000 Lego Art in Minutes

Trine Jensen-Burke

Yesterday was my birthday, and as a birthday present to me, my two-year-old (who turns three today!) built me a really tall Lego tower – which he then smashed four seconds later.

And sweet as this tower present was (and I took about four million photos, of course), I also totally got why he wanted to smash it, as the smashing part is clearly the best bit of Lego building, hands down.

Somewhat related, this might also explain why a giant Lego figure of Nick (the fox from the film Zootopia) was smashed to absolute pieces by a four-year-old Chinese boy only hours after going on display earlier in the week.

The impressive statue is said to have cost more than 100,000 yuan (£10,382) and taken creator, Mr Zhao, three days and nights to build. The proud artist then posted photos of his Nick statue on the Sina Weibo social network when he had finished building it.

But despite having a “no touching” sign in place at the Chinese Lego expo where Nick was displayed, the statue was left in a thousand pieces (literally!) after a little boy was indeed tempted to touch it – and, indeed, tear it to shreds.

Following the incident, the hashtag #ManSpends3DaysAndNightsBuildingBlocks has been used over 13,000 times on Chinese social media.

According to reports, the parents of the boy apologised  to Mr Zaoh, and even offered to pay for the damage caused, but kindly, the artist would not accept any compensation and insisted that he doubted the young boy had smashed the statue on purpose.

Whoops.
