The boy was taken to hospital but has since passed away.

A five-year-old boy has died in hospital as a result of an injury he got at a UK department store.

The unnamed child sustained a serious head injury at Fenwick department store on Colchester High Street.

The incident happened on July 27 and the boy was taken to Colchester Hospital.

Tragically, police confirmed on Tuesday he has died.

Mia Fenwick, director at Fenwick, said it was with “great sadness” that the company “learned of the passing of a young boy following an incident” at the store last week.

“All our thoughts and prayers are with the child’s family and friends at this very painful time,” she continued.

“We continue to work closely with the local authorities to understand how this happened.”

The store remains closed today “as a mark of respect.”

No further details have been released about the fatal incident.

The BBC reports specialist officers are supporting the child’s family.
