A complete legend of a Kansas mum has given birth to three sets of twins in just over two years.
20-year-old, Danesha Couch delivered her latest set of twins last month. The girls, Delanie and Darla, were born on the 17th of June, two years and two months after the birth of the first set of twins.
Danesha’s first set of twins were boys, Danarius and Desmond born in April 2014 followed by girls, Delilah and Davina 13 months later in May 2015.
Sadly baby Desmond died just minutes after the birth as a result of placental abruption.
The brave mum told The Telegraph:
“It’s been pretty tough, I tend to cry about it one minute, and then I am happy again. I do hope one day (Danarius) doesn’t tell me he feels empty and alone (without his brother).”
All the twins are fraternal and were conceived naturally and delivered via c-section.
A few months after the loss of her son, Danesha met her current partner, Jeffrey, who is the father of Delanie and Darla and Delilah and Davina. The two are now engaged.
Of the multiple miracles, Danesha said:
“It was a blessing; my mum started calling me double trouble.”
While Danesha’s situation is rare, having multiple multiples is also informed by genetics.
Dr Marjorie Greenfield, the obstetrics and gynecology chief at University Hospitals Case Medical Centre in Cleveland, Ohio, told ABC News that although Ms Couch’s situation was rare, having multiple sets of twins occurs partly for genetic reasons.
Fraternal twins occur when the mother releases two eggs in one cycle, while identical twins happen when one egg splits
Dr Marjorie Greenfield, the obstetrics and gynecology chief at University Hospitals Case Medical Centre in Cleveland, Ohio, told ABC News:
“It’s partly statistical, and it’s partly genetic, she probably doesn’t release two eggs every single month, but there are people that are genetically prone to releasing two eggs.”
On discovering that she was expecting the second set of twins, Danesha told the news channel:
“I was surprised on my second time because me and their dad were discussing it, jokingly.”
Then upon hearing in 2015 that there was a THIRD set of twins on the way, the young mum said:
“I knew that I had to buck up and put on my big girl panties.”
“They are my top priority. They keep both of us awake all through the night.”
“It’s tough enough to wake up and smile in the world at the moment. But as long as I know that my children are safe, I’m happy.”
