Absolutely Fabulous actress June Whitfield has died at the age of 93

Devastating news.

We have learned of some truly devastating news today.

Last night, the news broke that Actress Dame June Whitfield has passed away at the age of 93.

Whitfield, who was best known for her roles in Terry and June and Absolutely Fabulous, was a regular on screen for seven decades.

Her agent broke the news that June had passed away “peacefully” at home on Friday, December 28th.

A number of actors and admirers of June Whitfield shared their condolences on social media having heard the news.

Dame Barbara Windsor, a long time friend of June’s, released a rare statement regarding the news:

“At 15 years old, I landed my first West End theatre role in Love from Judy and I was lucky enough to work with the wonderful and highly talented June Whitfield, who was one of the leading ladies.”

“Not only was June a lovely lady who I learnt a lot from but I made up my mind to try and be like her. I was in awe of her.”

“Our friendship lasted up until her passing. I am truly sad and she was a great lady. May she rest in peace.”

June’s Absolutely Fabulous co-stars also shared their admiration and grief.

Joanna lumley said:

“I am heartbroken to lose such a darling friend and shall never forget her sensational talent, humour and her generosity to us all who had the joy of working with her on Ab Fab.”

“She will always have a most special place in my heart.”

Jennifer Saunders also wrote:

“It’s so tremendously sad to lose June.”

“I will always be grateful that she agreed to be in Ab Fab and even more grateful that she became a dear friend.”

“She lived and worked with an extraordinary grace. Everything June did was perfectly measured. She was so loved and I will miss her hugely.”

A true testament to how incredible June Whitfield was. Our thoughts are with her family.
