Kat O'Connor

17-year-old Alanna Quinn Idris was brutally attacked in Ballyfermot on December 30th.

The teenage girl was walking home with a friend when a gang of youths targeted them.

According to her mum Jamie, the boys who attacked her daughter have been bullying her daughter for quite some time.

The devastated mum told The Irish Sun, “This is something that has been going on for quite a few years. It was not just a random incident. These boys have bullied, harassed, tormented her for quite some time.”

Alanna is currently being treated in St. James’s Hospital for her injuries.

She has suffered a shattered tooth, broken bones in her cheek and eye socket, and a ruptured eyeball. Her family confirmed that there is a 90% chance she won’t regain sight in her eye.

Alanna’s mother said the damage is “extensive” but they’re holding on tightly to the 10% chance that Alanna may regain sight in the damaged eye.

Speaking after the harrowing incident, Alanna said the public’s support has been a major comfort to her.

“I’ve been absolutely showered with love and support by so many kind hearts, I’m trying my best to reply to everyone as fast as possible, but I just want to say that words cannot express how grateful I am for every single one of you.”

“Throughout this whole experience, I’ve tried my best to maintain a positive attitude,” she explained.

“I’ve finally accepted that there is an over 90% chance that I won’t be able to see out of my right eye again”

Alana said she is just grateful that both she and her friend Louis are still alive.

“Today was admittedly harder. I’ve finally accepted that there is an over 90% chance that I won’t be able to see out of my right eye again, which sucks because my right side is my good side lol.”

“Despite all this, I am genuinely just so so grateful that Louis is recovering well and was there with me that night,” she said.

The teenager admitted that she doesn’t know what she would do without him.

She also thanked the people who intervened during the attack.

Gardaí in Ballyfermot have launched a full investigation into the attack.

They have urged anyone who witnessed it to come forward.
