Aldi’s Christmas ad will have you rooting for two carrots in love

Say hello to Katie the Carrot.

Christmas ads are kind of strange.

Whether its a bear and a hare, a little girl with a bowl of cereal or even just a big red lorry, we all get behind whatever narrative our favourite brands present us with each festive season without asking too many questions.

Last year, Aldi did the impossible and made the world fall in love with a carrot.

We last saw Kevin the Carrot in the supermarket’s 2016 Christmas ad, hanging from one of Rudolph’s antler’s.

He’s back again for 2017 and this time, he’s chasing tail.

Say hello to Katie the Carrot.

The sexy carrot (sounds like a misguided Halloween costume, we know) is Kevin’s love interest.

“It was love at first sight,” narrates Jim Broadbent as our hero spies Katie across a table loaded with food.

We won’t spoil the ending for you – it’s hardly Gone Girl – but there is a nice Titanic reference in there and we finally get to hear Kevin speak.

Check it out here.

Aldi reportedly saw a 15 per cent jump in sales last Christmas, a spike partly attributed to the popularity of Kevin the Carrot.

Meanwhile, a short video clip has been released online and folks are convinced that it’s a teaser for this year’s John Lewis Christmas ad.

It’s just a few seconds long and is simply titled Under The Bed.

It looks like that’s all we’re getting for now.
