American chain branded ‘better than McDonald’s’ to open first Irish branch in October

The US fast-food chain will open in service stations nationwide.

Service station and energy company Corrib Oil will open the country’s first Wendy’s fast food restaurant in Mahon Point Shopping Centre in Cork this October.

The opening is set to create 50 new jobs.

The US fast-food chain was announced as a franchise partner of Corrib Oil last year.

Wendy’s will use 100% fresh Irish beef and chicken across its menu as a commitment to the Irish market.

Michael Dalton, Managing Director of Corrib Brands, said: “Opening the first Wendy’s restaurant in Mahon Point marks a major milestone in our partnership with Wendy’s.

“We’re thrilled to bring Wendy’s to Cork, offering fresh and locally sourced menu items and outstanding hospitality to local customers, who will be the first in Ireland to experience the brand,” he added.

Corrib Oil operates 40 convenience stores nationwide with forecourts and 20 fuel depots.

The Wendy’s partnership was labelled a key part of the station’s broader expansion strategy in Ireland.

The deal aims to double its national footprint to 100 locations by 2030 further continues to grow its distribution of home heating and fuel card business.

Managing Director of Europe at The Wendy’s Company, Michael Clarke, labelled Ireland as a great market for long-term growth.

“Corrib Oil’s deep roots in the community and commitment to operational excellence make them an ideal partner to deliver the Wendy’s ‘globally great, locally even better’ experience,” he commented.

Additionally, Centre Director of Mahon Point Shopping Centre, Justin Young said it’s really special to be part of bringing the very first Wendy’s restaurant to Ireland.

“This opening is great news for Cork – not only does it create 50 new local jobs, but it also gives people the opportunity to enjoy the craveable, high-quality food Wendy’s is famous for,” he said.
