Magazine Includes Amy Schumer in Plus-size Issue and She’s NOT Happy

In a new issue aimed at Plus size women, Glamour magazine has partnered with Lane Bryant US plus size clothing giant. So far so good.

However, they incurred the wrath of American comedian, Amy Schumer when they chose to include her among the ‘plus-size’ Women Who Inspire Us featuring the writer, comedian and actress alongside stars Melissa McCarthy and Adele.

In a post on Instagram Schumer responded fairly scathingly about her inclusion:

“I think there’s nothing wrong with being plus size. Beautiful healthy women. Plus size is considered size 16 in America. I go between a size 6 and an 8. @glamourmag put me in their plus size only issue without asking or letting me know and it doesn’t feel right to me. Young girls seeing my body type and thinking that it is plus size? What are your thoughts? Mine are not cool Glamour, not glamorous.”

For a bit of context Schumer is about a size 12 in UK sizes.

The magazine in turn released a statement clarifying that they did not call Schmer plus-size:

“The cover line on this special edition — which is aimed at women size 12 and up — simply says ‘Women Who Inspire Us,’ since we believe her passionate and vocal message of body positivity is inspiring, as is the message of the many other women, of all sizes, featured. The edition did not describe her as plus-size. We are sorry if we offended her in any way.”

Schumer was not buying it however and while she maintains she has no issue with being plus-size the “bottom line seems to be that these labels are unnecessary and reserved for women #muchlove,” as she stated in a follow up post.
