A number of energy companies in Ireland have announced price increases will come into place within the next few months.

This morning Energia announced the company would be increasing its electricity prices by 3.9 percent at the beginning of December, citing wholesale gas prices and network costs as the cause.

Energia’s Head of Marketing, Geoff Codd said in a statement;

“Regrettably, as a result of this significant price rise, we have no option but to pass on a modest increase in price to our customers.”

This increase will cost costumers with an average consumption approximately €31 euro extra per year.

Airtricity previously announced their prices would be taking a jump from 1 November. Electricity prices will rise by 5.6 percent which will cost an average €47 more for customers each year.

Bord Gáis is increasing gas prices by 3.4 percent while electricity will increase by 5.9 percent, representing an average increase of €25 and €57.

Managing Director, Dave Kirwan, said;

“Bord Gáis Energy regrets having to increase its prices for the first time in three years. Unfortunately, there are a number of factors outside of our control which have led to this decision. Continued increases in wholesale energy costs this winter, as well as the recent increases to the costs of distributing energy on the network have forced us to raise our prices.”

“If and when the markets change, we will ensure our customers once again see the benefit of reduced prices.”

In February 2018, there will be a 4 percent increase on electricity for Electric Ireland customers – an average of €35 increase for customers.

Executive Director, Jim Dollard, said;

“Electric Ireland is acutely conscious of the financial pressures facing our customers and we are committed to keeping prices as low as possible for as long as possible.”
