Alysia Montaño (31) defied belief when she showed up at Sacramento’s Hornet Stadium athletic track to run an 800 metre race. However, it’s not the runner’s first time to surprise the athletic world, as she also competed while eight months pregnant with her first child in 2014.

The mama-to-be says that she was inspired by Gal Gadot, the Israeli actress who portrays Wonder Woman, who was also five months pregnant during the filming of the DC comic movie. In a nod to her heroine, Alysia wore a Wonder Woman top and her trademark flower in her hair while competing.

Montaño is one of the most outstanding athletes on the American athletic scene. With a personal best of 1:57: 34, the 800 metre specialist is one of the stars of the New York Athletic Club and with the fifth fastest American woman in history. In fact, Alysia has been US champion in the discipline an incredible seven times, winning her most special victory in 2015 shortly after becoming a mum.

The native New Yorker and University of Berkeley graduate managed to finish the race in a time of 2:21:04. In 2014, she amazed the athletics world by getting a record of 2:32:13 while 34 weeks pregnant.
