The country has denied access to people with domestic violence convictions in the past including singer Chris Brown but from this year on officials will have the power to turn away anyone with the charges to their name.
Australia's new ban will also affect anyone who has entered the country before the ban came into effect and may lead to the convicted person's visa being cancelled.
According to Travel and Leisure, Immigration Minister David Coleman said ;
"If you've been convicted of a violent crime against women or children, you are not welcome in this country."A recent survey of domestic violence data in Australia revealed that one in three women and one in five men have experienced at least one incident of violence from a current or former partner since the age of 15.
