Absolutely heartbreaking.
Last month it was reported that 37-year-old mother Cassie Carli had vanished, having been last seen attempting a custody exchange with her ex partner.
Yesterday, after a week missing, Carli’s family received the news that no one ever wants to hear.
Authorities tragically confirmed that they had found the body of Carli in a shallow grave inside a barn in Alabama.
Carli’s ex, Marcus Spanevelo, has been arrested in connection with her disappearance and death and has so far been charge with tampering and destruction of evidence and giving false information concerning a missing persons investigation.
The tampering charge stems from Spanevelo taking and getting rid of Carli’s cellphone.
Authorities are currently not divulging the reasons for the other charges to the public at the moment.
Law enforcement have also confirmed that Carli’s 4-year-old daughter, Saylor, is safe.
Speaking on the case Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said during a news conference;
“It’s not the ending that we wanted, obviously, but we’re hoping to provide a little closure for the family.”
He went on to say that they believe that they have a strong case against Spanevelo and that they expect him to get the most severe sentence;
“We have definitely got a great case, and once the autopsy’s done and you see the charges filed, you’ll understand.
And he’s either going to spend the rest of his life in prison or he’s going to get the needle. Hopefully the needle.”
While it seems that justice may be served for Carli and her family, it is still bittersweet, as her parents have lost their daughter and a 4-year-old girl has lost her mother.
Her family said during an interview that Carli had just started a new job and was at a very positive place in her life when she was tragically killed.
