“We are living one day at a time”

The sister of Bruna Fonseca has paid an emotional tribute to her late sister.

Speaking only a day after Bruna’s former partner appeared in court after being charged with her murder, Isabel Fonseca has said that her family is finding it hard to come to terms with.

“We are living one day at a time,” she told reporters in her native Brazil.

28-year-old Bruna had been living in Cork since September and had always dreamt of moving and travelling abroad.

Her ex-partner Miller Pacheco, 29, also from Brazil, appeared before a special sitting of Cork District Court on Monday evening after he was charged in connection with her death.

He has been remanded in custody and is set to appear before Cork District Court again on January 9th.

Speaking after news of the court appearance emerged, Isabel paid tribute to Bruna, who had been working as a contract cleaner at Cork’s Mercy University Hospital.

Isabel said: “My sister has always been a very private person with her personal life.

“Bruna has always been defined as a warrior, a discreet girl, but with very well-defined goals.

“She was a sister who was always helping those who sought help from her.

“She was without a doubt the nerd of the family.”

Her sister added: “We still don’t know how to deal with her death.

“No one in the world can imagine going through such a situation.

“We are living one day at a time.”

Noting that her sister had planned to build a new life for herself abroad since arriving in September, Isabel continued: “As she was still in Ireland for a short time, she did not tell us if she would be staying there for a long time.

“But she was considering staying outside Brazil for a long time.”
