Christmas fundraiser launched in Glee's Naya Rivera's memory
"Let’s cherish the beautiful giving spirit of our friend Naya Rivera."
A Christmas fundraising campaign has been set up in memory of Glee star Naya Rivera who passed away earlier this year.
TheRivera's co-stars have set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Alexandria House in Los Angeles, a charity Naya had been working with which provides emergency housing for women and children.
The page is called SNIXXMAS Charity Drive - named after an annual Christmas party the Glee star used to throw for her close friends and family.
Dianna Agron, Heather Morris, Chord Overstreet, Jenna Ushkowitz, Kevin McHale, Matthew Morrison and a few other familiar faces from the show launched the Christmas fundraiser over the weekend.
Matthew Morrison posted a picture of the late star with the caption: “Let’s cherish the beautiful giving spirit of our friend Naya Rivera. We started a GoFundMe to raise funds for Naya’s favourite charity, Alexandria House in Los Angeles. Please help us give to those in need this holiday season.”
On the fundraising page it says: “If you were lucky enough to know Naya, you know she threw some epic parties. The best of them all was her annual Christmas party, which she dubbed Snixxmas. Snixxmas was like Naya herself … sparkling, fabulous and one hell of a good time! But it wasn’t only glitz, glamour and gay apparel."
“Every holiday season, Naya found ways to give back. Recently, Naya began working with a local non-profit in Los Angeles called Alexandria House. She not only raised and contributed funds for them, but also volunteered her time and effort to the organisation."
The fundraiser has already raised more than $77 ,000 in just three days. Her family has paid tribute to the star's friends on the GoFundMe page, saying: “We are forever grateful to Naya’s friends and colleagues for having the desire to put such a beautiful fundraiser together.”
Naya Rivera drowned earlier this year on Lake Piru in Southern California while boating with her young son. Her death was ruled an accident.
