Trying to figure out what to get your children for Christmas can be tricky once they reach the pre-teen stage.
They're starting to develop stronger personalities and unique interests.
They are at an age where they start distancing themselves from their parents because they're not 'cool' enough, but that can make Christmas shopping extremely stressful.
Kids as young as 10 and 11 are asking for quite advanced gifts due to their exposure to TikTok. One mum noticed the increase in young girls asking for skincare and makeup and questioned whether it was appropriate or not.
She told Reddit that she didn't feel comfortable purchasing things like serums, cleansers, and other skincare products for her daughter.
However, her child is feeling "embarrassed" because she's the only child in her class who doesn't have these products.
"Everyone in my daughter's 5th grade class is asking for skin care. Every single girl it’s insane. Stuff like serums and anti-wrinkle cream and I just laugh because they are 10, what do they need anti-wrinkle cream for they have baby skin!" the mum wrote.
She explained that her daughter hasn't asked for the skincare items, but feels ashamed because she doesn't have the same as the other girls.
"She said she is embarrassed and gets made fun of but she doesn’t want any face serums for Christmas because she doesn’t like that stuff thank goodness."
Other mums have asked her how she gets her daughter to play with toys because all of their children only care about skincare and make-up.
"None of them plays with any toys at all anymore. When I was in sixth grade, I still played with baby dolls, so it was a shocker for me for all these kids to ask for skin care and no toys at all."
The mum admitted she couldn't believe children as young as 10 were asking for beauty items, especially because they don't need them.
Fellow parents agreed that they're far too young, but one mum perfectly explained that it's because they see influencers using the items online daily.
One said: "It’s TikTok. All the girls in my son’s 6th grade class want Drunk Elephant skincare for their already perfect skin."
"My daughter is 9 and similarly none of her friends play with toys. She wanted to hide her dollhouse when her friends came over/ she found out her best friend plays with dolls too but was just to embarrassed to say," another said.
