Collins Dictionary has revealed its Word of the Year for 2026.

The slang term has become increasingly popular among younger generations and online.

The word is 'mogging' and is used to describe someone outshining or outperforming another person, particularly when it comes to their appearance.

If you've spent any time on TikTok recently, there's a good chance you've come across the term, which is often used when someone looks better, more stylish or more impressive than everyone else around them.

According to Collins, the word saw a 210% increase in usage in 2026, as Gen Z and Gen Alpha brought it into everyday conversations and online culture.

However, the term has a less light-hearted history and is believed to have originated from the acronym AMOG, meaning 'alpha male of the group'.

It was initially used in bodybuilding communities before becoming associated with the online manosphere culture.

However, its use has become more playful over the years, with younger people using it to describe everything from someone's outfit to their appearance or achievements.
