Couple get newborn back after leaving it in taxi on the way home from hospital

Imagine your nerves.

Thankfully, the baby was none the wiser.

A couple in Germany no doubt breathed a sigh of relief this week at being reunited with their newborn baby after leaving it in a taxi.

The parents were on their way home from the hospital in Hamburg after welcoming their bundle of joy.

They reached their home and managed to get out without realising anything was missing.

According to local police, they got their one-year-old child out of the car and paid their driver, completely forgetting about their second child.

They only realised their mistake as their driver pulled away, the Associated Press reports.

The baby’s father tried to chase the car on foot but failed to catch up and the driver took off, completely unaware that the sleeping infant was in the back.

They called the taxi service but were unable to track down the baby.

The driver parked the car in an underground carpark and went for lunch.

He only realised that he had a stowaway with him later in the day when he was picking someone up from the airport a few kilometres away and the new passenger noticed the baby when they got in.

He immediately called the police, who made contact with the worried parents.

After being checked by ambulance staff, the newborn was found to be unharmed and was returned to its mum and dad.

All’s well that ends well, right?
