2-year-old Aiden lost both of his parents in the shooting.

The family of Kevin McCarthy confirmed that the dad died a hero during the horror Highland Park shooting. According to reports, the dad shielded his son Aiden from gunshots on July 4th.

The boy’s grandfather confirmed that Aiden is still alive today because of his dad’s brave actions.

Kevin’s father-in-law Michael Levberg said: “He had Aiden under his body when he was shot.”

Both of Aiden’s parents were killed in the senseless shooting. His mother Irina and father Kevin have been remembered as devoted and loving parents.

Aiden’s paternal grandmother Margo was also with the family when the shooting started.

She survived but has been treated for injuries to her neck and ear.

A family friend told the Chicago Sun-Times: “She was holding Aiden when the shooting started. As she fell, Aiden was under his father.”

They added, “I’m sure it was God looking out for him. The Lord saved Aiden and saved Margo.”

When Irina’s family picked Aiden up from the police station, his grandfather said, “Mommy and Daddy are coming soon.”

A fundraiser has been launched to support the two-year-old boy.

Over $3 million has been raised for the orphaned boy so far.

The fundraiser has been set up by a family friend.

“Aiden will be cared for by his loving family and he will have a long road ahead to heal, find stability, and ultimately navigate life as an orphan.

“He is surrounded by a community of friends and extended family that will embrace him with love, and any means available to ensure he has everything he needs as he grows.”
