Fans will get the opportunity to pay their respects to not one, but two Hollywood legends today at the public memorial of actress mother and daughter Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher.
Debbie Reynolds died as a result of a severe stroke last December, at the age of 84, just one day after her 60-year-old daughter Carrie Fisher died of a heart attack on a flight from LA to London. Reynold’s son, Todd Fisher went on to reveal that his mother’s last words were about her late daughter: “I want to be with Carrie, and fifteen minutes later, she was gone.”
The mother and daughter’s public service will begin today at 1pm local time at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in the Hollywood Hills. According to Debbie Reynolds’ official website the event will also be live-streamed,
“On Saturday, March 25th, there will be a public memorial for my Mother, Debbie Reynolds, and my sister, Carrie Fisher at Forest Lawn Cemetery Hollywood Hills at the Hall of Liberty. We will be celebrating their lives with friends, family members, and the people who loved them, you.
The service will begin at 1:00 pm and immediately afterwards, those who want to walk to their final resting place are welcome to do so. There are a limited number of seats available, and it will be on a first come first come, first seated basis.
There are no tickets, it is first come, first seated. There will be room for overflow in the huge lobby as well as the outside with screens to watch and hear the service.
The event will also be live-streamed.”
Like all mother/daughter relationships, the pair’s tumultuous relationship has been well documented, and Carrie Fisher’s semi-biographical novel highlighted the adverse affects of growing up with a famous parent. Nevertheless, in 2011, the mother and daughter appeared together on the Oprah Winfrey show where both mother and daughter spoke openly about their admiration for each other. Carrie said:
“I believe my mother knows now but if she doesn’t, it would be good if she did: that I take her advice, that I follow her example, that I respect who she is… and if I’m like her in any way then I’m happy that I am.”
On the pair’s special memorial day and just ahead of Mother’s Day, we’ve pulled out some of Carrie and Debbie’s best moments – those gorgeous loving exchanges and glances between a little girl and her mama.
We think these are just beautiful.
