Dog dies after Garda gun discharges during search of Dublin house

A dog has died after the firearm of a Garda discharged during the search of a house in Dublin.

The dog attacked the Armed Support Unit and detectives from Coolock Garda Station at a house in Coburg Place, Dublin 1 on Sunday.

The dog was treated following the shooting but did not survive its injuries.

A man in his 40s was also arrested at the scene and was questioned at Coolock Garda Station. A quantity of drugs with an approximate street value of €5,000 was found during the search.

He will appear at the Criminal Courts of Justice at 10.30am today.

The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission has since been informed of the incident.
