Exciting news on a Monday morning.

2FM’s Doireann Garrihy has confirmed she’ll be returning to the airwaves in two weeks with a brand new breakfast show. She has been taking some time away from the RTÉ flagship show as she worked on several other projects including her sketch comedy show, The Doireann Garrihy Project, which launched its new season today.

Doireann joined Tara Stewart and Stephen Byrne, who’s been filling in for the presenter, on the 2fm show this morning to share the exciting news saying, “I’ve been working away in the radio ideas factory as we’ve christened it, and it’s all looking quite exciting and I can exclusively reveal on the show this morning that I will be back on air, on the 31st of May, with a brand new Breakfast Show.”

Doireann had been presenting the show alone before taking some time away a few weeks ago after the sudden departure of her former co-host Eoghan McDermott earlier this year.

In a statement at the time, the national broadcaster explained, “RTÉ is developing a new direction for the 2fm Breakfast Show which will be revealed in the coming weeks. Doireann Garrihy will remain with the show.”

Doireann has yet to reveal any further details, including whether she’ll have a brand new co-host or continue presenting the show solo.

We’ll have to tune in on the 31st of May to find out…
