Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s mum in horror car crash

Steve Hopkins

‘Angels of mercy watched over my mom as she was in a car crash late last night.’

Dwayne Johnson has praised his mother as a “survivor” after she was involved in a car accident in Los Angeles earlier this week.

The 50-year-old actor posted a picture of his mother, Ata Johnson’s smashed-up Cadillac on Instagram on Thursday following the accident a day earlier.

“Thank you God she’s ok,” the wrestler-turned-actor wrote of his 74-year-old mother, in a caption on the post.

“Angels of mercy watched over my mom as she was in a car crash late last night.”

Johnson added that his mother will “survive and continue to get evaluated” and noted how much adversity she has overcome, writing: “This woman has survived lung cancer, tough marriage, head on collision with a drunk driver and attempted suicide.

“She’s a survivor, in ways that make angels and miracles real.”

Johnson thanked the Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles Fire Department “for being so caring & focused” and “for staying on phone and talking me thru it all”.

Johnson, whose father Rocky Johnson died in January of 2020, urged his followers to show love to their parents.

“I got one parent left, so if you still got your mom and dad make sure you hug ‘em hard, cos you never know when you’ll get that 3am call we never want to get,” he said.

A number of Johnson’s contemporaries in the entertainment and sporting worlds sent him their best wishes in the wake of the crash.

Wrestling star Mercedes Varnado wrote: “Glad she’s good. Sending love and prayers.”

Olympian Lolo Jones said, “Prayers for her recovery! Glad she’s ok!!”

Rosie O’Donnell said, “prayers answered,” while Pierce Brosnan said, “God bless.”

Bodybuilding icons Phil Heath and Ronnie Coleman both reached out to Johnson.

Heath wrote: “Brother, I am so sorry your mom endured this but very thankful to God she’s okay.

“I can only imagine the stress you felt in that moment. Sending love and prayer.”

Coleman said: ‘I know exactly what you mean. I lost my only parent almost 6 years ago. That hole never heals and I miss my mom every day. God Bless yours and may she live forever.”
